Sunderland v Fulham Match Preview and Betting Odds

Sunderland will look to put a run which has seen three straight defeats to an end as Fulham visit Wearside on Saturday in what is shaping up to be a huge match for Martin O’Neill’s team.

Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion showed certain improvements in the Black Cats’ play, but it was the same old failings of making big errors at important moments that cost them.

For the first time since signing Danny Graham for £5million from Swansea City in the January transfer window, O’Neill opted to deploy a 4-4-2 formation from the start and fans were pleased that there was more attacking intent from their team.

But Sunderland still left the Midlands pointless after they once again wasted chances in front of goal which they were left rueing come the full-time whistle.

Martin Jol’s Cottagers will arrive in the North East buoyed by a 1-0 home win over Stoke City last Saturday, courtesy of a stunning volley from Bulgarian ex-Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov during the first-half.

For those looking to place a bet, Berbatov is at 7/1 to score first in Saturday’s game, with Sunderland’s Steven Fletcher at 6/1 to open the scoring.

Transfer window capture Graham is at 7/1 as well, with Stephane Sessegnon, who got what turned out to be a consolation goal during last weekend’s loss, at 8/1.

With Sunderland now just five points away from the Premier League relegation zone, now is the time for O’Neill’s men to start converting toil into wins so that they can give themselves breathing space ahead of the last 10 games of this campaign.

Optimistic Black Cats fans can get odds of 8/1 on a correct 1-0 Sunderland win, with a 2-1 prediction offered at 19/2 from certain bookmakers.

Sunderland v Fulham kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
